Tom can't run. Juliet can't really swim... So, we decided to do a triathlon.
But, mostly we wanted to find a way of paying back the people that enabled Laurence to have his liver tranplant. As many of you will know, after several years of deteriorating illness and more than 6 months on the transplant register, Laurence (Juliet's housemate of many years, and Tom's boyfriend) had a liver transplant on 01 December 2016. He was in surgery for 9.5 hours, followed by a scary time in intensive care. And, although there's a way to go, he's making a really strong recovery now.
Thanks to an incredible amount of medical expertise and dedicated research, he was given a second chance at life.
Laurence has chosen the two charities we're fundraising for. The Foundation for Liver Research has contributed to advances in liver medicine, including for very rare genetic conditions like Laurence's. Secondly, he chose Meningitis Now to pay tribute to his donor, who passed away suddenly from meningitis.
