My name is Sacha Goodwin and I am planning to complete the 'Santiago de Compostela' pilgrimage trail in Spain. It is a 6-week walk that will take me from July through to August, and over 550 miles by foot. I would like to tell you why:
In August this year my best friend lost his mother due to cancer, 5 short and painful months after she was diagnosed. Maggie (in photo on the left) was a stunning and beautiful free sprit and a very caring and loving person. As an auxiliary nurse for the elderly, she dedicated her life to helping others, and brought joy to those around her. She once inspired and encouraged me to walk the Camino de Santiago - a pilgrimage route covering 500 miles - which she herself completed once, and which I first completed in 2010. Before Maggie found out about her illness she was always telling me about how much she would love to complete the walk again, unfortunately she never did. But now she will walk it again in my heart.
Seeing the attentive loving care she was given in her last days I would like to raise money for Jersey Hospice Care, so that this vital service can continue to provide respite and care in the hour of need. Alongside this I will also be raising money for The MS Society of Jersey, which is a charity that is also very close to my heart.
Therefore I will be walking the Pilgrimage in July and all of August in the name of Maggie, and for Hospice Care and MS. I will be covering a total of 550 miles, as I will be going further than my first journey in 2010 - all the way to Lands Ends. This epic walk is usually referred to as ‘St James’s Way’, but for me, and everyone that knew Maggie, this particular journey will be ‘Maggie’s Way’ as a testament to her strong character, generous and vivacious spirit xxx
