Thanks for visiting The Phil Couchman Memorial team fundraising page.
Phil died at the age of just 49, from a rare form of a cancerous tumour in the brain, myself personally lost a father at the age of only 19.
Phil himself was a very active, spirited and an all-round great bloke. However one day he had a seizure which inevitably made the family investigate the reasons behind. After much investigation, He was then diagnosed with a Grade 4 "Astrocytomas Brain Tumour" a form of Cancer.
Astrocytomas are a type of neoplasm of the brain. They originate in a particular kind of glial-cells, star-shaped brain cells in the cerebrum called astrocytes.
To be told age of 19 that your father has terminal cancer, was very hard to take and after 6 months’ worth of treatment, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy and a operation. Phil passed away peacefully in his Sleep surrounded by his family.
During that 6 month period Phil was incapable of even bathing himself however with support from my family and Marie Curie Cancer Care he still spent the majority of his last 6 months of his life, in his own home, through the fantastic support of some inspirational carers and family.
The support of Marie Curie within last 6 months of his life was very important to me and my family, because it gave us all time together our thoughts, and spend more valued time with him. I will never forget the support those people gave me in the last 6 months of his life, so I will be running at the Great North Run for Marie Curie Cancer Care in memory of a great man Phil Couchman and for a great cause in Marie Curie Cancer Care.
