East London Sands is fundraising to provide one of our local hospitals, Whipps Cross University Hospital, with a new Demeva Cold Cot.
The Demeva Cold Cot system cools baby and can be placed by a mother’s bedside, allowing families to stay with their baby before being moved to the mortuary and is in use in thousands of hospitals around the world.
The time spent with a baby after a stillbirth or neonatal death allows the family to form an important bond with their baby; whether changing a nappy, dressing the baby, taking photographs or simply staying close can help make precious memories. A Cold Cot can help in preserving the integrity of the baby during these valuable moments, which in turn can help families to cope with their loss.

All the funds raised will be designated for the purpose of the East London Sands Whipps Cross Hospital Cold Cot Project. Once this project is fully funded and its £2,364 target reached, any excess will be spent where the need is greatest, helping Sands to continue to deliver its vital services to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, to improve the bereavement care received by parents and families, and to promote research to reduce the number of babies dying.
