Those of you who know me will have seen my mission to get fit plastered all over Facebook for the last year and a bit. After using Michael Pates beginner triathlete programme (designed for chubby American blokes) at the gym as a much needed low impact way of building fitness I've had a mid-life crisis and decided to take the plunge and "TRI" the real thing in Stratford on 14th May.
My sprint triathalon effort will be a 400m pool swim, 18k cycle and 5k run and since making my... decision and entering just 4 weeks ago I've been working hard to translate what I've done very steadily and slowly in the gym to outdoors - definately not easy when you are carrying the extra pounds I am.
So it's not going to be easy - and I'm certainly not going to be be quick - but I am determined to finish (hopefully in one piece). I'm a strong (but not quick) swimmer, I'm borrowing a bike (first time I've ridden one in 15 years was just 2 weeks ago and my first road bike ever), and I've been taking the plunge and leaving the treadmill behind - and just putting one foot steadily in front of the other in the big outdoors over the last month -
all whilst taking all the advice my friends can offer along the way.
Whilst I've done all of this for me, my health and fitness and for a challenge (cos I'm like that!!) I thought I'd strengthen the willpower and try to raise some money for Macmillan and Marie Curie along the way.
