Our reason for taking on this monster challenge of walking the West Highland Way in just 4 days (a total of 96 miles) is down to one very special lady. Her name is Joan Porter and she is an inspiration to everyone who suffers from dementia as well as a wonderful advocate for the charity Alzheimer Scotland.
Joan, 85, managed to achieve a life long dream of becoming a children's book author last year with stories she wrote decades ago about countryside animals. Not letting her dementia stop her in any way, Joan has given interviews to the press and media along with nunmerous personal appearances at book festivals, visits to primary schools and has even been a guest speaker at St Andrews University. She really does not let Alzheimer's get in the way of living her life and she is loving her new found fame as a published author to the fullest.
Any donations you could spare would be greatly received and will go directly to Alzheimer Scotland.
