Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page.

Four friends have joined together for this event in memory of a very special young man and mutual friend.

Lloyd joined Witham Army Cadets as a fresh faced 13 year old boy in the mid-90s.  Sean, Paul and Mark were three of the adult instructors at the time and Dean was one of Lloyd’s friends and fellow cadet. The bond that formed in those early days has never been broken and we have remained friends ever since.

It was clear from the outset that Lloyd was extremely special and would achieve a great deal.  Gaining several promotions and excelling in all aspects of cadet life. He enjoyed all sports in Cadets, especially the sport of target rifle shooting, representing the County in small bore and full bore shooting.  He also excelled at Javelin becoming the ACF National Athletics Champion.

Lloyd also gained many qualifications in his time as a cadet, including the highest Signalling qualification a cadet could gain, becoming a PTI and earning the appointment of Master Cadet, the highest award in the Army Proficiency Certificate.  A Cadet Staff Sergeant on leaving, he truly was an inspiration to many cadets and adult instructors alike.

Lloyd continued to be an inspiration to many when he joined the Regular Army.  Always a collector of badges, it wasn’t long before he was collecting Cap Badges. First the Royal Signals, serving with 216 Parachute Signal Squadron, then the Royal Engineers and then the Parachute Regiment, with the Pathfinder Platoon. A true professional, he never forgot his roots and Lloyd would regularly help out on Army Cadet events, bringing with him his amazing knowledge and incredible passion and always with the most ally kit and the biggest smile.

Corporal Lloyd Newell, was fatally wounded whilst on operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on 16th June 2011. Friend, husband and a father to a beautiful daughter he was our true hero. He loved his job, and made the ultimate sacrifice doing it. His passing has left an enormous hole in the lives and hearts of all who knew him. He was a special man, a man who always went a little further.
