My daughter, Amy Metcalfe, 25, died of pneumonia in Dewsbury Hospital on Monday. Amy, who was born with the genetic disorder Pfeiffer syndrome, was given just hours to live at birth and underwent more than 50 operations during the first ten years of her life.
Amy was an inspiration to all of us. Despite the enormous challenges she faced, she was always smiling and happy. Her positivity in the face of adversity rubbed off on everyone who knew her.
We were incredibly proud of Amy and the courage that she showed no matter what life threw at her. We will miss her terribly and she’s left a huge hole in our lives – but she will continue to inspire us all.
For the past nine years, Amy has lived at Hollybank, most recently at The Poplars, where she has received outstanding love, support and care.
As a child, Amy was a regular visitor to Martin House Children’s Hospice, who provided first class support to Amy and her family.
