Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page. We will be swimming the English Channel (all 22 miles of it, and that's if we swim straight!) between 8th and 14th September 2012, weather permitting.
We've joined together to raise money for Aspire, who assist people with spinal cord injuries.
To give you some idea of costs, to fully adapt and furnish a property costs Aspire £25,000. This includes:
• Rise and fall kitchen sink £1,200
• Rise and fall hob £1,500
• Theramatic bed and mattress £2,400
• Adapting bathroom floor £3,500
• Adapting bathroom walls £1,600
• Rise and fall basin £650
• Specialist toilet with padded seat £375
• Shower adaptations £200
• Handrails £250
Aspire also offer grants to buy equipment. The majority of applications for Grants are for lightweight wheelchairs but that is not all that Aspire funds. Average costs for the most commonly requested items are:
• Dragon software (voice recognition) £150
• SmartNav technology (hands-free mouse) £300
• Laptop and accessible bed table £700
• Integramouse (mouth-controlled mouse) £1,600
• Made to measure lightweight wheelchair £3000+
• E-motion wheels (power assisted wheels) £4,000
• Powered wheelchair £16,000+
