Unbeknown to most people, the origins of bingo are incredibly rich and charitable. The game was first played in Italy during the 1500s. However, the main influence behind what we aspire to do today originates from a version of bingo that was played in America during the 1930s.
At the beginning of Thirties, the game was becoming a popular pastime in the States and by 1934 an estimated 10,000 bingo games were being played weekly. Inspired by the notion that this game could be used for charitable causes, a Catholic priest from Pennsylvania got in touch with a toy salesman from New York called Edwin S. Lowe, who had been partly responsible for the game’s success in the country.
The priest asked Lowe if he could use the game as a fund-raising method for the Catholic Church. Lowe agreed, and churches began hosting bingo games in their basements as a means of raising money for charity.
Whilst we are a non-religious organisation, we set-up Charity Bingo with the sole objective of putting charity back into the industry; it is our aspiration to maintain the legacy created in 1930s America by that priest.
Every time someone plays bingo at our site, www.charitybingo.com, a £1 in every £20 is donated to charitable causes, and every month we choose a new charity to donate to, in order to support a large variety of different causes, all of which are incredibly important to us.
Since our birth in …, we have raised close to £3,000 for seven different charities!
We choose our charities each month after careful consideration and consultation with team members and our players. If you have a cause that you think we may be interested in, then please drop us a line at: … info@lindar.com
But enough of what we have to say, this is what our charity partners have said about us:
Whizz-Kidz:
