In 2011 we established "For Pete's Sake" in memory of my Dad, Peter Hanlon who was one of the founder members of the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA). Following a car accident in 1972, my Dad spent nearly 40 years paralysed and confined to a wheelchair.
"For Pete's Sake" is a series of challenges to raise funds for the SIA. So far, with the help of our amazing friends and family and various team event we have now raised over £5,000 and are keen to get this eventually to £10,000.
2015's challenge is being led by my 13 year old son Archie who has decided to mark becoming a teenager by cycling the entire way around the Isle of Wight. He will be joined by me, his 'old man' to raise a bit more cash for the SIA. He has called this challenge ' Cycling with Grumpy'. I can't think why!
The route is about 70 miles long around a very rugged and exposed coastline. He hopes to complete it in 1 day, with the aim of passing through the most Northern, Southern, Eastern & Western points of the island. We will depart on 16th May 2015 form East Cowes.
Archie will also be doing lots of training and so will be looking for a bit of encouragement along the way by seeing the donations increase each week. Ideally he would like to raise a further £500 before he sets off and £775 by the time he finishes, to hit our initial target of £4,000 raised for the SIA across our family challenges to date.
