Sadly I lost my Dad to non-small cell lung cancer in November last year. The news of his diagnosis came as a great shock to us all, not least of all to my Dad who hadn't smoked for decades. Unfortunately his condition was too far advanced by the time he was diagnosed and he passed away just 3 months after diagnosis. Obviously this has been a really difficult time for our family and even though my Dad wasn't able to benefit from treatment, I would like to do something to help others who are in this same situation and who might be able to benefit from specific research into this form of cancer, in order to help detect the condition earlier.
My Dad was a great believer in helping others so I hope to make a bit of a difference by raising money for his charities. So I've signed up to do the Birmingham Half Marathon which takes place on 23rd October...I won't lie, the training is going to be a challenge but it's all for a good cause so I hope you'll be able to spare some cash to spur me on. I'm going to share donations between the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and Cancer Research UK so if you have a preferred charity, there is a separate Justgiving page linked to this one for Cancer Research UK.
