We are running for The Bubble Foundation, who help children like Oscar McLaughlin, born with a rare inherited condition called Severe Combines Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or SCID.
Oscar took seriously ill on December 19th and spent his first Christmas in ICU. Thanks to the fantastic attention and care he received at both the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine and the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children they were able to diagnose him with Severe Combined Immune Deficiency Syndrome - essentially he has been born without an immune system.
On the 28th December he was transferred to a specialist unit in Newcastle, England.
The Bone Transplant Unit where Oscar is being treated cares for children all over Europe who require bone marrow transplants and provides the families affected, with the support they need during such a difficult time. The unit is also home to The Bubble Foundation. Please take a few moments to visit their website http://www.bubblefoundation.org.uk/and understand how important their role is in Oscar's recovery process.
We really appreciate any support you are able to give us as we'll all be training hard to make sure we fly round the course on the day in our Bubble Foundation t-shirts! Every donation is much appreciated!
