Middle Aged Men in Lycra (aka Ian & Dave go mad in Europe!)

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In January 2016 Ian was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer.

Fortunately it was caught early. He had a major operation, an oesophagectomy, in April 2016 which removed the cancer and most of his oesophagus with it.

Ian is still on the long road to recovery, but he's getting better all the time and the cycling is part of this recovery.

We've decided to do a cycling challenge to help with the recovery and raise money for charity. We'll cover 270 miles in 4 days, riding from London to Brussels, through Holland. This will be a serious challenge for both of us.

We've both lost someone we know to cancer (which is probably the case for everyone) and whilst Ian was one of the lucky ones we want to raise money to help find a cure for this form of the disease.

We're raising money for a charity called the The Health Tree Foundation. They work in partnership with the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust covering the Grimsby, Scunthorpe & Goole area.

50% of everything we raise will go to support Oesophageal Cancer research and help support those with this condition.

50% will go to the Health Tree Foundation's Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal for Scunthorpe Hospital's Maternity Unit.

This is an appeal very dear to Ian's wife; Jane is a midwife working at Scunthorpe Hospital and she leading the appeal. It's really important that they raise the money needed for the Bereavement Suite and we'd like to help them achieve this goal.

Jane has seen first hand the of mothers giving birth to a still born baby, or giving birth to a baby who only has a few hours to live. This is made worse at Scunthorpe General Hospital because there is no choice but to return the family to the ward where new mothers and fathers are celebrating the birth of their healthy babies.

We want to help raise the money to enable the provision of a Bereavement Suite within the Central Delivery Suite at the Hospital. This will provide a safe haven for mothers who have just given birth to a still born baby or mothers who have only a few hours to spend with their newborn child before it passes away.  It will be a place where the family can spend time together too.

We need to raise a minimum target of £3200 between us by June 2017, but obviously we'd like to raise even more if possible.  Please give generously.

If you do, we can avoid posting any more photo's of wearing lycra. You know it makes sense.

Thank you for visiting our team fundraising page and supporting us in raising money for this charity.
