At the end of 2016, Dave Lawlor Vice President of Cereal for Kellogg Europe visited a charity in Moss Side called Cornerstone who Kellogg’s supports as part of its Breakfasts for Better Days programme to help combat hunger. The centre provides services to adults facing a wide range of social issues including homelessness, poverty, refugee limbo and isolation. Kellogg’s provides food donations of cereal and snacks to the centre.
Dave was so inspired by his visit to Cornerstone that last April, he and his 15 year old son Max took part in The Big Sleep-Out in support of the thousands of people who have to endure sleeping rough on the streets of Manchester every year. Together they raised almost £10k for the charity.
After this great success in 2017, Dave has decided to sleep out again, this time with his two sons Max and Kent. He has also recruited some Kellogg colleagues to join him – Gareth Maguire (Commercial Marketing Director, UKI) and Rupert Maitland Titterton (Senior Director of Corporate Affairs) and Sustainability. Rupert is also bringing his wife who in turns out will be sleeping rough on the eve of her fiftieth birthday to raise much needed funds.
Armed with a few cardboard boxes (recycled Kellogg's of course) and a sleeping bag each, Dave and team will be pitching up at St Christopher’s Church in Ashton-under-Lyne on Friday 27th April and sleeping in the open air to raise money for Cornerstone’s PODS project – these porta cabin style sleep units provide temporary shelter for people in need.
Each POD can house two people. Cornerstone has ten in their car park. But that’s not enough and this is where you come in. Dave and team want to raise funding for more PODS.
