Macie's Story
Mesothelioma Diagnosis
Tracey, Macie’s mother had first started to notice that Macie’s stomach was swelling in March and knew something wasn’t right. At first, we thought that there maybe a gluten or dairy intolerance, but Tracey pursued to see a Doctor for Macie who was starting to find the swelling very uncomfortable.
Macie’s Doctor sent her for an ultrasound and an MRI scan the following week at Royal Devon and Exeter hospital and she was then transferred to Bristol’s Royal Infirmary Children’s hospital to have a drain put into her stomach and a Hickman line through her neck. After a short wait Macie finally had her diagnosis, in April 2018, an extremely rare form of cancer in children, Mesothelioma.
Macie’s Journey
Although Macie’s journey has only just begun, she has had 3 rounds of chemotherapy and will continue to do so until August 2018. However, Macie’s consultant is exploring other options that are available to her, surgery being the main one.
Macie is such a strong, beautiful young lady. She is continuing to make everyone laugh and smile like she usually would. She has already been through enough and is taking the whole situation in her stride, a true inspiration to all.
Holiday, Family and School
Tracey managed to get Macie away to Ladram Bay for a week of relaxation in a caravan, despite having to have her stomach drained each day, she doesn’t let it get to her and still manages to crack a smile!
Macie lives with her twin sister, Madison, 13, her elder sister, Saskia, 17, her mum, Tracey and dad, Nellie. Macie has such a close-knit family and she has so much support and love from everyone around her. Macie can’t wait to get back to school and spend time with her friends.
Macie loves dancing, listening to music, playing the XBOX / PlayStation 4 and watching Netflix.
We have started #MaciesArmy in hope to raise as much money for Clic Sargent, as we can, who have and will continue to support Macie throughout her journey.
Please any donations you could possible donate would be very much appreciated.
