The Beatson Cancer Charity provides patients and staff with the most cutting-edge equipment, treatments and surroundings to fight cancer. Their team also offers a range of complementary therapies to help relax patients and provide relief from pain, insomnia, nausea, phobia and anxiety.
This fund raising event helps participants raise money for this worthy cause whilst riding some of the more technically challenging roads in Scotland.
Each day will have three routes all reaching the same destination but taking a different path to match the ability of each rider. Regardless of your riding skill you will find a route that challenges you.
The most experienced riders and those with a steel bum will take a route that covers circa 300 miles per day and will largely traverse twisty single track roads. If taking this option you can expect to be in the saddle for about 9 hours each day so allowing for rest breaks we anticipate departing at 9am and arriving at the next stop about 9pm.
The intermediate will still take a circuitous route but will be a little shorter at around 200 miles per day and will ride along a mix of A and B roads but will generally avoid Motorways and Dual carriage ways. The time in the saddle will be closer to 6 hours.
The least experienced riders will stick mainly to A roads and take a more direct route between stops. This could still be a few hundred miles but should be closer to 4 hours riding each day.
All routes will at times converge allowing riders to mix and match, also just because you join one group one day does not exclude you from joining another the following day. We want you to be challenged but we don’t want to put anyone at risk pushing them too hard. Of course we also want you to have fun!
As this is a fund raising event McTours want the maximum proceeds that to go to the Beatson Cancer Charity therefore we are keeping expenses to a minimum. Accommodation will be in Hostels or similar depending on the numbers taking part. Food will be provided at breakfast, lunch and dinner plus a few coffee/tea breaks. The entrance fee will help to cover these expenses. All participants are being targeted with raising £1000 for the charity.
