In Loving Memory of Oliver James Awcock

Team photo

These fund raising pages are dedicated to the memory of our beautiful little boy who sadly lost his fight for life on the 5th August 2011 following a major operation, he was aged 3 years and 11 months.

Oliver was born on the 6th September 2007 by emergency caesarean section weighing only 1.4kg. He was unfortunately born with a number of congenital problems the most significant being TOF/OA (Tracheo-Oesophegeal Fistula with Oesophageal Atresia), meaning that he was unable to feed or swallow as his food pipe was incomplete with no connection between his throat and stomach.

Throughout his short life Oliver had many operations and spent many months in hospitals. In 2008 he suffered a gastric perforation and was very lucky to survive but fought back to full health against all odds. Despite all of the problems and continuous medical attention, Oliver was always a very happy little boy with a bright cheeky smile and infectious laugh. In all of the tribute and sympathy cards we have received from the many people who came in contact with Oliver he is always remembered giggling and charging around hiding people’s shoes and handbags.

The memory of a little boy who fought so hard for life and smiled and laughed despite having much to complain about was (and will always be) an inspiration to us all. We will never forget him.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, we have chosen to support the charities who provided us with a great deal of support and care throughout Oliver’s life.

TOFS : This charity provides support, help and information to families of children born with the TOF/OA condition. They coordinate research into the condition and provide booklets, leaflets and conferences to educate and raise awareness of this rare condition.

Leo House Childrens Hospice : Provide outreach and respite care to families with disabled children and children with life limiting and complex medical conditions. Thanks to their support we were able to get regular breaks from the continuous care Oliver needed.
