Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page.
For the third year in a row our very gutsy team of cyclists along with family and friends have joined together to raise money for charity. You'll see our team fundraising target on the right. Your donation can really help us smash this goal.
This year our chosen charity is the Childrens Liver Disease Foundation.
Therese Heaney who is 7 years old and from Belfast is one of the many children who has received support from CLDF.
Therese was born with liver disease known as Bilary Atresia. At 5 weeks surgeons carried out a procedure to allow bile to drain from the gut and prevent damage to the liver.
Therese was closely monitored by liver specialists in Birmingham Children's hospital (BCH) since birth, her condition gradually got so bad that she had to spend quite a bit of time in hospital. In 2014 (age 7), the transplant team at BCH considered that her condition had deteriorated to the point whereby a transplant was needed.
Therese was placed on the transplant list mid Feb 2014 and in April 2014, she got that all important call. She was taken by air ambulance to BCH for the transplant. The transplant was a success and she is doing well.
The cause of Bilary Atresia is unknown and research into its cause is important. Donations help support thousands of children with a liver condition and their families to access vital support and information. It also provides hope for the future by helping to fund life saving and life changing campaigns and treatment.
