In 2011 our colleague, Emma Paine, was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called Myleodysplastic Syndrome which affects the ability of her bone marrow to produce healthy blood cells. Emma underwent treatment at the time, including a bone marrow transplant. This put the disease into remission, enabling her bone marrow to do its job properly and allow Emma to lead a normal life. Unfortunately, due to a recent relapse, Emma will shortly be undergoing more treatment; this will entail some aggressive chemotherapy which is likely to be followed by a bone marrow transplant.
Those who know Emma know that she leads a super-active life and puts most of us to shame in the fitness classes she teaches at the gym. So it seems right that we experience some Pain for Paine to raise money for charities that continue to help her.
