Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body" - Richard Steele, Writer and Politician.
Welcome to the fundraising page for the Pride of Penguin and DK Walk 2013!
Now in its 6th year, we want to make this year’s walk bigger and better than ever before! This year’s walk is all about celebrating some of Penguin and DK’s most cherished authors, characters and books as well as a celebration of the joy of reading itself. Our journey will take us to spots where some of Penguin and DK’s most popular and famous literary figures lived, worked and visited (from Dickens to Dahl, Peter Pan to Peppa Pig). During the walk we'll be giving out free children's books, plus we'll be roping in an author or two (and some local schools) to join us along the way!
The Pride of Penguin and DK Walk is about creating a movement; inviting your colleagues, friends and family to help some of the UK’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children develop and grow through the power of stories and reading. We are teaming up with Booktrust to do exactly that – by supporting the charity’s newly-launched Children’s Reading Fund. So please, if you can, do join or share this page to help us raise money for this fantastic charity.
If you choose to support the Children's Reading Fund, here are some examples of where our donations could help:
£9 will pay for a special pack for a deaf or blind child
£20 will pay for 3 more children with special needs to receive a Booktrust pack
£30 will pay for a child with a father in prison to receive books and other reading materials to use at home
£130 will pay for another child in care to be supported with regular monthly parcels
£500 will pay for a child falling behind at school to receive support through the summer holidays including packs, activities and one-on-one time from our trained volunteers.
