In recent years York Sands has been actively fundraising with support from the local community to raise funds towards a new bespoke bereavement suite. This is to replace the existing facilities at York Hospital.
The new suite is needed to provide an area for bereaved families to spend time with their baby in a private and appropriate setting.
The proposed new area will have facilities including an ensuite bathroom and will be situated away from the labour ward.
All the funds raised will be designated for the purpose of York Hospital Bereavement Suite. Once this project is fully funded and its £60,000 target reached, any excess will be spent where the need is greatest, helping Sands to continue to deliver its vital services to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, to improve the bereavement care received by parents and families, and to promote research to reduce the number of babies dying.
