In July 2014, James Lawrence, Mark Harris and Paul Foster will be competing in the famous Megavalanche mountain biking event, held in the French alpine resort of Alpe D'Huez.
The Megavalanche is a mass start Downhill/Enduro race of over 2000 competitors, starting on the summit of the Pic Blanc glacier 3300m above sea level, and descending more than 2000m along a 30km course to it's finish in the valley of Allemont below.
The main race starts with a chaotic steep descent down a snow covered black graded ski-run, then technical singletrack and tough climbs combine to form a physically demanding enduro course.
Before that however we have to qualify! qualifying is held a couple of days before the main event, and where we qualify will determine how far back in the crowds we start for the main event, the further back you are, the harder it is, as the snow at the top will be more churned up and heavily rutted and there will likely be lots of fallen riders and carnage to avoid in front.
We will be competing in aid of Disability Challengers, a registered children's charity dedicated to providing exciting and challenging play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and young people, whatever their needs.
A significant benefit of their service is that it provides families with short-breaks during high pressure times e.g. at the weekend or during the school holidays.
Challengers play and youth schemes are where disabled children and young people feel that they belong, are safe, have fun and make friends.
