As Captain of Penrith Golf Club I am delighted to announce two very important golf events taking place at Penrith Golf Club in the near future.
The first will be on Tuesday 27th May when Sir Ian Botham OBE, will visit the club to play in a charity golf event for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. He has done some tremendous work raising funds for leukaemia research over many years and it is a great privilege that he has agreed to take part.
My own family has had to deal with the impact of Leukaemia over the past year as my daughter-in-law Alison is still undergoing treatment for this terrible illness. I just want to try and do something to help.
The presence of Sir Ian will highlight the significance of doing as much as we can to try and support research into this illness which affects so many people. If you are able to help in any way that would be fantastic.
Also on Monday 9th June a speed challenge will take place at the club when several members will be attempting to play a round of golf in the quickest possible fashion!! This format was suggested by Steve Gargett and all proceeds from this event will be donated to both Leukaemia and Lymphoma research and the Sunbeams Music Trust which is an inspirational local charity helping people with disabilities of all ages enjoy their lives more through the therapy of music.
I am looking forward to playing in the speed challenge myself together with my vice-captain Duncan Miller.
