I have recently signed up for a number of runs this year, 10th April I will be running Titanic Quarter 10K; 16th April will be the 10km Castleward Challenge; 2nd May Belfast Marathon Relay; and 15th June I will be running the Lisburn Half Marathon... I have made the decision to fudraise on behalf of 2 brilliant charities in Northern Ireland that have recently been made very apparent to my wife and I.
My wife, Lynsey, is currently receiving treatment for a brain tumour, suddenly diagnosed in October 2015, less than a year since our wedding.
We all hear the facts and figues in the media all the time in regards to cancer, but it is not until it affects you or your loved ones that the significant impact hits home so hard.
Lynsey has received 1st class care and treatment in Antrim Area Hospital, The Royal Victoria Neurosurgery Ward, The Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital, along with the Brigewater Suite at Belfast City... From being at all of these locations with my wife it has become very apparant how much help and assistance that all of these charities provide to cancer sufferers and their Family & Friends.. (In particular the ones we have already benefitted from, but obviously not limited to are MacMillan; NI Hospice; 1in 3 Cancer Support; Friends of the Cancer Centre and Brainwaves NI).
Obvioulsy all charities benefit greatly from donations, but I am keen to fundraise for "Friends of the Cancer Centre," who fund life saving and life changing projects that make real and lasting differences to the lives of so many local people affected by cancer, giving clinical care, patient comfort and research in addition to those provided by the Health Service;
and also fundraise for Brainwaves NI, who provide information & support to all those affected by a Brain Tumour.
