We are an early years preschool setting and have recently expanded our provision to be able to meet the demand for early years spaces. This means that we constantly use all areas of our building for our sessions in which we have up to 21 children in each room. This has made a very positive difference to the community in terms of sufficiency however we no longer have an area / room that we are able to use as a quiet space. The children need a quiet space for interventions to meet their wellbeing needs and their developmental needs on a 1:1 or small group basis which the Hygge Hut would provide. It would also be a space to meet children's sensory needs when things become overwhelming for them particularly for those children with SEN. When the hut is not being used by the children at lunchtimes then it can be utilised by the staff for their break time. This will add immensely to their wellbeing as they currently do not have an area away from the children to use. In turn, if the staff's wellbeing is looked after, their drive and enthusiasm will have a truly positive effect on the children. With improved wellbeing for both children and staff, and children having the space and environment to maximise their development it will lead to a healthier (mental & physical), educated and motivated community. The long term benefits will be stable mental health, social mobility and achievement of potential throughout education and beyond.
