Story
You may have seen Queen's Park featuring in the press frequently in the past couple of years, following the creation of the first London inner city parish council, Queen’s Park Community Council. Thanks to a start up grant from the Community Council, it is now also home to a new Football Academy, 'Queen's Park Gardens Football Academy’. The grant received has covered set up and ensured the correct first aid provisions are available. QPGFA provides twice weekly football coaching run by qualified coaches. These sessions have become extremely popular & now have over 40 young people signed up. The sessions take place every Saturday & Sunday in Queen's Park Gardens & because they are completely free we expect the interest to continue to grow. Queen’s Park in Westminster has a low percentage of green space where many families have no garden or open space attached to their homes. This type of activity increases participation in physical activity & builds social skills through teamwork. Due to the popular demand we would like to expand these sessions to run after schools & for a longer time at weekends. In order to achieve this aim we need to secure further funding to be able to employ football coaches. It is imperative that the coaches are able to continue the great work that they do whilst ensuring these sessions are available for all ages. A lot of the work that we have done so far has been with ages 6-10 yr's & 11 yr's plus, we now have a potential team of Twenty 18-24 yr old's that would like to join our sessions. Since Queen's Park Garden's Football Academy started it has become a great diversionary activity for young people encouraging them away from hanging about on street corners & possibly becoming involved in youth crime and/or violence in an area, where sadly some young people are involved in gang activities and knife crime. Which is why we are now Crowd-funding. We are happy to discuss the possibility of official sponsorship if a local business is interested.

We currently run free sessions with voluntary coaches which have become so popular & have given young people in Queen's Park such a great diversionary activity we want to expand our age range & number of sessions. This funding will help us do this for at least the next two years.
