Story
On Saturday 25th/Sunday 26th June Matthew Alden will be attempting to break the world record for most consecutive opponents, Real Tennis singles. The current record stands at 26 so a minimum of 27 best of three set matches will be needed to beat it. This means more than 24 hours on court, accruing breaks of just 5 minutes per hour. All in all, quite a feat of concentration, fitness and endurance.
The charities that Matthew wishes to raise funds for are
www.keenoxford.org and
www.manyhopes.org
KEEN is a registered charity and a joint organisation of Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University which provides social, sporting and recreational activities for children and adults with special needs in Oxford & the surrounding area.
KEEN athletes (the children that attend the sessions) have a wide range of physical and learning disabilities. KEEN’s definition of special needs is very broad and rarely turn people away! The coaches (volunteers) are mostly local students and young professionals. All money goes directly to the charity.
MANY HOPES rescues children from poverty and abuse and raises them with an imagination for justice and the tools to act on it. Many Hopes educates local children to solve the problems that charity alone cannot. The Many Hopes Young Justice Center will be built in Kenya to house and fund a team of child rights lawyers and researchers advancing the well-being of children through the law. All money goes directly to the charity.
