This time last year, our Father Hugh Boyle was diagnosed with Sporadic CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease - a fatal neurological disorder which is quite rare). As you can imagine it was a difficult and extremely sad time for our family. Luckily dad was able to come home and spend the last 10 months of his life with his family and friends who loved him deeply.. a time we will all treasure.
Without the help and support of the CJD Support Network, who provided nursing care 3 nights per week and ongoing advice regarding the nature of his illness, we would have found it most difficult to sustain the level of care that dad needed.
So, in honor of our Father, we have decided to dedicate the Berlin Marathon to the CJD Support Network & Research Unit. We would like to show our appreciation for all the support we received from them over the past year and to help them continue helping families like ours to spend the last few days & months as comfortable as possible and to also help them in their endeavour to find answers to this rare disease that so little is known about.
We would be grateful for any donations large or small... it all counts for this very worthy cause.
Many thanks and best wishes
Noeleen and Sinéad Boyle. x
