On 8th August 2007, our great friend David "Jacko" Sale was tragically killed in a helicopter crash whilst on RAF exercises in North Yorkshire.
In his memory, we are taking on a somewhat unusual challenge - to play 100 holes of golf on the shortest day of the year, 22 December 2008.
With only 9 hours of daylight available, this entails covering the 23 miles, or 5 rounds and 10 holes, at a speed of 1hr 40mins per round. Hopefully it will be either snowing or raining to increase the difficulty of the venture.
The challenge will take place at Hankley Common Golf Club, Surrey, whose support we are most grateful for.
The Charities Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund: The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund was founded by Lord Trenchard in 1919, a year after the RAF was formed. The fund provides direct welfare assistance to those of the extended Royal Air Force family that are in need or distress, and many families of those killed in service benefit from the charity’s work. www.rafbf.org
The Great North Air Ambulance: The Great North Air Ambulance provides emergency medical cover for the North East of England, North Yorkshire and Cumbria (an area covering 5500 square miles and 3.5 million people). Time and time again, the Great North Air Ambulance has proven the value of having an established Air Ambulance in this region, and it was a team from the GNAAS that attended the stricken helicopter in August last year. www.greatnorthairambulance.co.uk
RAF Benevolent Fund has kindly agreed to collect all donations raised through this Justgiving site and split the funds equally between themselves and Great North Air Ambulance Service. This is because Justgiving does not have the capability to support two charities with donations.
Many thanks for your support.
