Freddie Connolly, Michael Edmonson and Mike Connolly are doing a 100 mile canoe on the river Wye in aid of the 2010 Hope for Uganda Youth Mission. Hope for Uganda is a charity that works alongside the established parishes in Kasese in the Western region of Uganda near the border with the Congo. The Bokonjo tribe that live in this region are one of the lower status tribes within Uganda who will benefit from the money raised.
The paddleing will take 4 days from the 10th to the 13th of June. Thats the equivalent of a marathon a day whilst carrying your tent, food and clothing.
To prepare for this task we will be training both on and off the water and learning key skills such as the doggy paddle to the boat and how to get back in the with dignity after falling out. Mike Connolly is the most experience canoeist (on paper) but is the other side of 50 so not the fittest. However it will be his task to make sure the canoe is pointing in the right direction for as much of the paddle as possible. He will also be in charge of first aid (blister repair) and has some three star canoe training, so will advise on how to tackle the many rapids we could encounter (avoiding any rocks). Michael and Freddie who are 20 and 19 will be the powerhouse hopefully for longer than the first ten minutes. All equipment used on the trip is our own or donated/borrowed so any money you donate will go directly to our cause.Michael and Freddie are planning on visiting Uganda with the Hope for Uganda team in the summer this year and the money you donate will be taken with them to benefit aids orphans and street children in Uganda. The cost of travelling and accomodation in Uganda is being paid for directly by Michael and Freddie so your money goes straight to the children.
We are grateful for any support you can give us.
The more money we raise the more children we can help. So please dig deep and donate now.
