Story

Thanks for visiting our JustGiving and '101 Dundonians' Maggie's Monster Bike and Hike page! You're one step closer to helping make a great cause even greater!

You'll probably know Bruce's story by now, which is unfortunately similar to so many other people's affected by cancer. A quick resume of his life in the Cancer Zone will however help you understand why your donation and commitment to Maggie's is so very important.

May 2009, Bruce was diagnosed with Early Advanced Prostate Cancer. PSA of 49 and a Gleason Score of 9. Not good!

He started Hormone Therapy almost immediately. 30 Sessions of Radiotheraphy. Then another tumour, this time in his Para-aortic gland, brought the highs and lows of Chemotherapy for 6 months.

How did he feel after that set of challenges? 'Tired, like i was living upside down, feeling bad about having no hair, hating that moon-face effect that steroids bring, feeling low, got depression, had a psychotic episode, in hospital twice, found out what friendship and support really means (thank you all). Now, ongoing scans, watching and waiting, whilst Hormone Therapy remains a positive option'...

Last year we three all took part in Maggie's Monster Bike and Hike. Gordon and Mandy made it through all the way to Gold. Bruce - although he aspired to complete with Gordon and Manady, he stumbled his way - probably as a consequence of actively being on chemo at the time, to Bronze. This year Bruce is hoping that his fitness level will reward him and Maggie's with a more realistic Silver Medal (Drumnadrochit here he come's). Gordon and Mandy? Well, of course they're going for Gold again!

Please support us, Maggie's and the 1 in 3 people who'll be touched by cancer at some time in their life.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

So, it’s a really efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity!

So please, please, keep digging deep and donate. We know that this year is tough financially...think of Maggie's as 'paying it forward' for your friends and family who'll be impacted in the future and give what your budget allows.

Thank you so much. Maggie's and raising awareness of Cancer Issues is a huge, meaningful, and rewarding part of our lives. Let it be yours as well.
