My name is Sally Harrison and I live in Nidderdale in North Yorkshire. In 2004 my sister, Jane Rose was diagnosed with breast cancer, over the next 5 years she had various operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Jane started fundraising for breast cancer charities in 2006, she did the Moonwalk in London 3 times and walked the Great Wall of China. In 2005 myself, friends and family started fundraising, our first event was a Pink Craft Fair which was a great success, we now do this every year. From 2007 the Yorkshire Cancer Centre in Leeds became our chosen charity. Fundraising events we have include Fewston tea rooms, Shoe Parties, the Pink Craft Fair and climbing the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
Sadly, Jane died on the 19 November 2009. She will be greatly missed by a lot of people, we all loved her very much. Ten days before she died she spoke to me about a challenge that she thought I could do for 2010. Jane was a Numeracy consultant with Education Leeds and she loved numbers, she had come up with the idea of us doing 10 challenges in 2010 to finish on the 10 October 2010 all to include the number 10 or a denomination of 10!!!!!, for example 10 jigsaws in 10 weeks, 10 guests at a dinner party and charge £10 per person, 10 x 10 km walks or runs, the ideas are endless. The challenge has evolved, we are doing 10 months of fundraising to try to raise £10,000 for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre, to try to include as many people as possible and to have fun along the way.
If you are reading this it means someone you know has had an idea for a challenge and is hoping to raise money for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre, this site is the best way to do this. If you cannot attend an event but would like to make a donation please feel free to do so. Please also look at the top of the page at the photos of events so far.
Fundraising for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre means a lot to me and my family and it would be great if you were able to make a donation, take part in one of the organised events or to organise an event yourself.
