Recently communities and local businesses throughout Merseyside and the North West have demonstrated great generosity and contributed immense support to the Armed Forces deployed on operations in and . Eight Soldiers from 156 Transport Regiment RLC (V) based in Liverpool and , all have experience of these operations and the support given by the public does not go unnoticed and as a group we feel it would be befitting to return something to the community that we serve to say THANK YOU.
We decided on The Everton Foundation which is a Registered Charity that delivers programmes promoting Health, Education, Social Inclusion and Equality amongst people of all ages living in Merseyside and the . They have a comprehensive social and sporting programme for people with various disabilities it is considered one of the largest disabled sporting programme throughout the world. Why ? Having served for 11 years in Germany during the Cold War era we thought it would an experience to go back behind the once mysterious Giant Iron Curtain, an element of mystery still remains within the Ex Soviet Union countries and we wish to experience the way of life in the capital, at the same time run the Moscow International Marathon of Peace, taking in the sights of The Red Square, The Kremlin and the colourful sight of St Basils Cathedral. During the time we are self inflicting ourselves with aching limbs and blisters our aim is to raise funds to assist those individuals, which now includes Ex-Servicemen whom who are all benefiting from the social, education and sporting programmes offered by the Everton Foundation helping them integrate within mainstream society, offering a better quality of life.
