Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

There's lots more information and photographs of the walk at  www.16jan.co.uk   ... but let me quickly tell you the gist of it ...

At 4pm on 16 January 2008 I left  Xafinity Claybrook in Crawley, W.Sussex and set off for Harefield Hospital in Middlesex ~ the exact time and date as the previous year.  On that occasion I was driven (at speed) and underwent a heart transplant in the early hours. Thanks to the generosity of my donor and their family AND the expertise of the staff at Harefield I am now fit and well enough to do the journey on foot (albeit a different route and I didn't arrive until 19 January!). By doing so I am hoping to raise a lot of money for the hospital AND a lot of interest in the NHS Organ Donor Register.

While many people already carry a donor card, the NHS Organ Donor Register is the most secure way of potential donors making their wishes known. It can be quickly accessed 24 hours a day to see whether an individual has registered a willingness to be an organ donor. It can literally be a lifesaver. If you are not already on the register please make this an opportunity to discuss your wishes with your family and sign up at  https://www.uktransplant.org.uk/ukt/Consent.do?campaign=1601

I have had a tremendous amount of help from friends and colleagues, and as a result there are a lot of paper sponsorship forms and collection boxes in circulation ... and a lot of eyes on this target!  Please help me to reach it.

Thank you.   Russell

The Xafinity dress down day (18/1) raised in excess of £500!

The street collections at Reigate, Leatherhead and Esher raised £270.

(these amounts are included in the total above.)

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital Charitable Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
