Story
After waiting all day on Wednesday 6th June in anticipation of the challenge ahead, we set off smiling and in high spirits at 4pm for our first mountain - Ben Nevis. After completing this in 5 hours (just under our expected time), we were still smiling and ready to take on our next mountain - Scafell Pike.
We were one Leader down due to illness for Scafell, so just the 2 of us started off at 4am feeling a bit weary. When we saw dawn break over the mountains, it was just beautiful and made up for any achey legs! After completing our second mountain in just under 4 hours (and ahead of some men from another team - go girls!!!), we set off once again for our last mountain - Snowdon.
We reached the base of Snowdon at Thursday lunchtime. After much deliberation, a few angry words at the weather and a tear or 2 shed, we decided not to climb Snowdon. The weather was just too bad with gale force winds and torrential rain, and it wasn't worth the risk to ourselves. We were devastated, but we still managed 2 of the highest mountains in under 15 hours, and we feel incredibly proud of what we've achieved. The support from friends, family and our local community has been fantastic, and we've already started thinking about what our challenge next year will be!
So thank you all for your kind donations and fantastic support, the money raised will be of great benefit to Julia's Hospice and 1st Wimborne Guides. This site will be open until the end of August for donations.
As part of a voluntary organisation we often get forgotten about as a recognized charity.
We may not provide a life saving service, but in this day and age it has become increasingly important to help young people achieve a sense of worth and provide them with skills they can use throughout life.
Not only do we aim to provide the girls with unique opportunities and activities which many would not normally be able to achieve, we also try to provide a safe environment once a week for crafts, games and fun. The costs of uniforms, renting the hall and general equipment all adds up though and funds are constantly needed to maintain our unit.
We 3 Leaders of 1st Wimborne Guides are taking on the 3 highest peaks in the UK - Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell, aiming to complete them in under 24hours on 6th June 2012. We’re fundraising not only for 1st Wimborne Guides, but also for a local charity which is close to our hearts - Julia's House.
Julia’s House is Dorset’s only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions. The majority of the children they care for are unlikely to live beyond the age of 18.
We will donate half of the money raised to Julia's House.
So PLEASE help us reach our target, as both charities are worthwhile causes.
