Story
I'm planning to run the 2003 London Marathon in support of the Terrence Higgins Trust. This will be my sixth marathon, and if all goes well I hope to finish in about five hours (though to be honest it may be more like 5:30).
I did it! My time was 5:22, in line with my expectations, and I ran the whole way (no walking).
Thank you for all your support.
I had a setback in January when I got a muscle/tendon injury in my left calf, which meant I couldn't run for four weeks. But it's better now, and I'm back on track to build up my endurance ready for the full marathon distance in April. I completed the Hastings Half Marathon on 16 March with no problems.
The Terrence Higgins Trust is a really worthwhile charity, serving people diagnosed with HIV. It joined up with the Lighthouse two years ago. Do support it. Some of my friends have died of AIDS, and this is particularly in their memory. Others are living with HIV/AIDS, and that's one of the areas where the THT helps.
Please sponsor me online.
It's the most efficient way for me to raise funds for my charity. If you are a UK taxpayer your donation will be increased by almost a third at no cost to you.
Both I and my chosen charity, THT, really appreciate your donation. Any amount will make a difference but please try to give generously!
Thanks to the following, who have made donations or pledges offline: Tracy Pace, Mary Fulbrook, Bob Allan, Don Elson, Sally Page, Jane Setter, Gerard O'Daly, Reinier Salverda, Mark Pickerell, Neil Smith, Masaki Taniguchi, Allen Hirson, Moira Yip, Michael and Patricia Ashby, Valérie Hazan, Richard Hudson, Kevin Marson, Boris Isarov, Ruby White, Reiko Hara, Michael Wells, Tony Wells, Molly Bennett, Jill House, Mary Pearce, Roy and Debbie Bailey, Martin Oatts, Ann Mortlock, Renata Whurr, Geoff Williams, Gordon Hunter, Merle Mahon, Stuart Rosen, Debbie Burke, Mark Pickerill, John Dawson, Sen Liu, Roger Wells. Many thanks to all. (Professor) John Wells
