As some of you may know, I had attempted to run my first marathon in 2005. I had done lots of research on a program appropriate for my fitness level and personal goals. I was very excited about my training and soon being a part of the 1% of the world who have completed a marathon! However, that ended shortly before completing half of the training up to the race. I suffered a hip injury and required therapy for the next two months. I had no motivation to run anymore and thought there was no way of achieving this goal.
During the therapy, the doctor recommended I start running again to assess my progress. I had already been a part of the local YMCA and heard about the YRunner Group. The group met a few days a week with runners of all levels. Through this group, I met some great people who were willing to help me recover from the injury and start running again.
In 2006 and within 5 hours, I achieved my goal that I started in early 2005, and what an amazing accomplishment! Since then, I have run a few half marathons and another marathon (photo from my last marathon in Chicago!).
So...I have decided to go for a third round of this painful yet rewarding experience...but this time with a more meaningful reason. To give back to a great organization that helped me achieve my goal, I am running my third marathon on behalf of the YMCA. And this is where I need your support! Any donations you can make will be greatly appreciated. If you choose not to donate but feel a need to get out and do some running, I'd love the company and encouragement to train for the 26 miles and 385 yards!
Many thanks for your support!
