New Year Midnight Marathon · 31 December 2007

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans helps all serving and ex-Service men and women who have lost limbs, or lost the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.

Story

In order to raise some money for the British Limbless Ex Servicemen’s Association (BLESMA), 16 Staff Officers from Headquarters 52 Infantry Brigade based in Helmand province of Afghanistan have volunteered to run in a 24 hour marathon. The marathon will start at noon on the 31st Dec 07 and finish at noon 1st Jan 08. The event will involve the participants, in pairs, running 3 x one hour shifts and completing approx 26 miles each. Due to the confined nature of the route, which is basically the base perimeter wall and fierce cold temperatures, plummeting to -8’C  at night it will be a touch challenge.
