Yep, we are running the 2009 London Marathon!

About 6 years ago we lost our Grandma due to Cancer. It was a difficult and exhausting process for everyone in our family, as it was the first time that we experienced this illness so close. Last year, our Granddad passed away with a different type of Cancer. I was in the middle of a tour and it was hard being so far away.

But they left us full of great memories. We're sure that they'd prefer us to celebrate their life. Chila & Coco (that's how everyone called them), lived their life to its full until the very last moment. They were an exceptional couple and two inspiring individuals for everyone that met them. Constantly hungry for learning. Loved traveling. They never took anything for granted, both as professionals and as individuals. We feel privileged to have shared our times with them.

Pablo decided to run his first marathon at Chicago last year. I went there to support him. The atmosphere was incredible. I wasn't expecting it at all. I was a bit reluctant to wake up so early on a Sunday morning!, but after experiencing it for the first time, that's where we decided to run the London Marathon together. This is something we just needed to do, at least once. Apart from being a personal challenge, this run, in a way, is some sort of closure too. Some of the hardest parts dealing with Cancer were not knowing, the constant battle and hoping for a maybe. That's why we chose Cancer Research as our charity for the London Marathon. Opportunities like these, help raise awareness and contributes to raise funds for an ongoing great cause".

So please sponsor us now!
We know is difficult times for everyone, but ANY amount you can donate DOES help!

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page and helping us reach our target.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Many thanks!

Both of us completed the 21 miles training mark..... Now, all we have to do is wait. 24 days to go!!!
We just wanted to say a BIG thank you for all the sponsorship and the really nice comments and messages of support on our JustGiving web page, it really means a lot to me and Pablo and will make a big difference on the day when we hit the running wall!

As so many of you have sponsored us, we wanted to say thanks and we're going to put the names of everyone who have sponsored us into a prize draw (no matter how much the donation was) to win one of these prizes!

1. One of my Zildjian cymbals used on tour which everyone in the band has signed.
2. Five signed copies of the Decade in the Sun programme.
3. Five signed copies of the Decade in the Sun vinyl album.

Anyone that sponsor us, right up to the day of the race will be eligible for one of these prices.

UPDATE 30/04/09

Hello everyone!!!
We did it!!!

We would like to start by saying thanks! Massive thanks! Not only we managed to complete the marathon last Sunday (after 4:57, ouchh!), but we managed to smash our donation target of £4,000, raising £5,400 until today!!!

Everyone at Cancer Research UK is really happy with our involvement and without your help we couldn't have done it.

We started the race at the green start with a perfect blue sky, gagging for a piece of the action. We planned our race, aiming to finish between 4:00 and 4:30. The idea was starting slow and build it up bit by bit. Of course that's only the theory! When you are there, you can't help get excited by the people and instinctively you start running faster, risking burning out.

Everything went smoothly. We did the first 5K in 0:32, 10K in 1:03 and 15K in 1:34. Pablo was getting more and more in to it, as his name proved to be very popular with the supporters. By the time we hit 20K, we were on 2:05; and the half marathon was completed in 2:11. We were really happy so far. I was eating my disgusting carbo gel things to keep me going and my brother was very receptive with sweets and jelly babies brought by supporters. We wanted to avoid 'THE WALL'

At 30K (3:11), Pablo found the bastard wall! He had stomach pain. Not exactly what you want when you're jumping up and down while running and a lack of toilettes, so we had to slow the pace. We decided then to finish the marathon together no matter what, even if it took us longer than we expected. The idea was to enjoy the day and the whole experience.

Steadily, we did 35K in 3:55. Short after that, we had to make a compulsory pitstop! By 4:39 we were completing 40K and all it was left was 2K more. By this point your legs can't be any more tired and tight. They feel like a Ton each, but the crowd lifts you every single time and carries you until the finish line. By 4:57:02, we completed the London Marathon when we crossed the finish line. In one piece!

Many thanks for all your support!
And remember....never take sweets from strangers!!!
