Story
Life is always full of challenges, some are easy some are not...
It can be fragile and vulnerable, and if spent well it can bring great rewards.
Unfortunately Claire and I suffered the pain of multiple miscarriages; something that happens to more than one in five pregnancies, around a quarter of a million in the UK each year.
We both relied heavily on the support of the The Miscarriage Association (http://www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/ ) during this period.
The Miscarriage Association is a small charity surviving on barely £200,000 a year and desperately needs any donations it can get.
After a lot of healing (both mentally and physically) Claire ran and completed the London Marathon, raising nearly £2,100 in the process. I made the rash promise of completing an Ironman distance event for my own fund raising effort.
And here we are 4 years later, after competing in 1 Blenheim Triathlon (Sprint Distance), 2 London Triathlons (Olympic Distance), 1 Windsor (Olympic Distance) and first failing and then succeeding to complete HIMUK (Half IronMan UK aka 70.3), I have secured a place on Quelle Challenge Roth 2010.
So on Sunday, July 18th 2010 I will be lining up at 0600 in order to push my body harder than I have ever done before.
For those unfamiliar with Ironman events it is a simple swim, bike and run. However the distances break down as follows:
Swim 2.4 miles /3.8 km
Cycle 112 miles / 180 km
Run 26.2 miles / 42.195 km (Yes it *really* is a marathon at the end)
However, there are time limits, I have to complete:
The Swimming in less than 02 hours 10 min.
The Swimming and cycling in less than 09 hours 30 min.
The Swimming, cycling and running in less than 15 hours 00 min.
I hope this will inspire you to help me support this charity.
