Story

---Update---

We did it!!!! All 143 miles done and we arrived in Tynemouth on time. We set off from Whitehaven on the first day in rain and made our way to Keswick where we stopped for a spot of lunch. The afternoon of the first day was a lot brighter than the morning and we made it to Penrith incident free. After a brief night in Penrith we hit the sack and awoke to one flat tyre...Bonker had gone over some glass so he had the privelge of replacing the tube in the pouring rain. During the second day it rained pretty much non stop and it was bitterly cold. We did 8 of the 9 huge climbs that day and its fair to say that one or two of us wished we werent there....it was an unbelievably difficult day but the banter got us through and we arrived at Consett after more than 8 hours of riding time. Another brief night out in Consett and we set off, after a fantastic breakfast, on the last 30 odd miles home to Tynemouth (after Terry fixed his puncture that again happened overnight). A quick cuppa on the Quayside saw us on the final leg of our journey and were temporarily halted by a puncture that Grant picked up. We arrived just before 2pm in Tynemouth to a fantastic reception by friends and family who had braved the horrendous weather. Thanks to everyone who was involved, and especially the lads who stepped up to the challenge....what a great weekend, never to be forgotten.

June 2011 sees a hardy few take up the 140 mile Whitehaven - Tynemouth Coast to Coast Challenge to raise funds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

Most of us work for Renolit Cramlington Ltd and we're hoping to raise as much money as possible for a great charity following the diagnosis of one of the riders, Neil, with Chronic Myeloid Leuakemia in October 2010, aged 31.

The challenge will take place over three days, the first is a 52 mile ride to Penrith, the second and toughest day is over 60 miles and takes in a lot of hills, most notably the infamous Hartside Pass. The final day sees us make the final 30-odd miles from Consett to Tynemouth.

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is currently investing more than £7 million into groundbreaking research at the University of Newcastle, focussed on improving diagnosis and treatments for adults and children with leukaemia.
