Story

The challenge will take place on February 17th 2012.

This year Myself and Rob harris will be pairing up to do the challenge side by side. We also will be having friends join us to keep the pace up through the 24hrs.

After my Dad pushed himself in his open boat paddling a massive loop around the norfolk coast i will have to up my game to push myself. I have decided to paddle the upper Dart, not very hard i hear you say, well i will be doing loops without stopping for 24 hours, yes paddling in the dark!!! I have been asking around and no one has know of anyone paddling for 24 hours on such a high grade of water before, so it could be a first in the UK or the world.

Why am I doing this ? Well my Mum was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, went through treatment and in 2010 she found out it had come back, so she is under going another course of treatment. The Big C appeal which is based in Norfolk does a lot of work to find treatments for cancer which benefits the whole country and needs help funding it.

The river Dart is situated in the Dartmoor National Park, the section I will be doing is between Dartmeet and Newbridge, the paddle is 7km long or 147 Olympic swimming pools in length, the river is graded at a 4 which being the grading system goes up to 5 as the hardest means this is not an easy river. The next biggest danger will be the temperature, February is going to be chilly enough during the day so I will have to watch my layers under the drysuit, I need enough to keep warm but not to much to make me sweat and loose the warmth.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
