24 Peaks Challenge · 4 September 2010

The Sunshine Fund provides specialist equipment for children with disabilities or special needs, to improve the quality of their lives. The fund is helping North East children in special schools, learning units, hospitals and also individual families.

Story

The Sunshine Fund is a specialised fund in the North East of England that aims to enhance the lives of local disabled children and their families through the provision of essential equipment, learning aids and custom built apparatus. This is a charity that has helped my son Conlan in the provision of specialist play equipment.

The Challenge is to walk up 24 peaks in the Lake District, each one over 2,400 feet, in 24 hours total walking time. This will happen over the weekend of the 2nd / 3rd October

Some of the route follows well-defined ridges, but the height climbed and descended throughout the challenge is significant. The route includes many of the more famous peaks such as Red Pike, Scafell Pike, Helvellyn and Great Gable.

The challenge will be undertaken over a single weekend, with a brief sleep during Saturday night.

In short……….the walking distance is 31.5 miles and the overall ascent is over 13000ft.
