Swindon Half Marathon · 11 October 2009

Supports families in the Swindon area who have a child with cancer or leukaemia. It is run solely by parents and volunteers and has no salaries or office accommodation to pay for.

Story

Calm is a independent local charity, caring for the needs of families within the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust, who have and had children or young persons dealing with Cancer or Leukaemia.  Because CALM is run by the families of children who have been diagnosed with cancer, all of its members have personal experience of the illness, and the strains cancer can put on family life.

The volunteers at CALM use their time and personal experience to help others in times of need.  They provide much needed emotional and financial support, in the form of grants for expenses and equipment, facilities, day trips and social activities for sufferers.  As well as this, CALM is also dedicated to funding childhood cancer research to help the fight the battle against cancer.

XXIV Squadron of Royal Air Force Lyneham have developed a close relationship with the volunteers at CALM and all members of the Squadron take pride in supporting this local charity.  on Oct 11 2009, 9members of the Squadron will be running the Swindon Half Marathon, each member hoping to achieve a Personal Best on the notoriously 'hilly' route.  Together, and with your help, we hope to raise £1000 for CALM.
