Story
Ladies and Gentlemen,
My name is Lieutenant Simon Wright. I am the platoon commander of 8 Platoon, Charlie Company, 2 SCOTS currently serving alongside your sons in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. As I’m sure you are all aware on Tuesday 30 April, 2 SCOTS were involved in a tragic incident in which Cpl William Savage, Fus Samuel Flint and Pte Robert Hetherington lost their lives. It was an event that the soldiers and officers of the 2 SCOTS family will never forget. As a platoon we hope to raise some money for the soldiers and families affected by the loss of our three comrades.
On Sunday 2nd June, myself and 11 members of my platoon will pull our combats on, pack a day sack weighing in excess of 22 pounds and complete 22 km (the equivalent distance of Glencorse to Peebles) in the fastest time possible. This isn’t a walk in the park; temperatures in June surpass 45 degrees centigrade, dehydration can set in within 20 minutes and the course is a morale sucking dust track which winds its way around an ISAF base on relentlessly undulating ground.
A few of the team will attempt a best effort time while others will stay in a group and complete it together. Either way this event will require everyone to dig deep within themselves to find the strength to rescind the constant thirst, severe sweating and heavy weight on our backs.
I ask you all to give as much as you can, every pound counts. The money will be donated to the Royal Regiment of Scotland fund with the families and soldiers who were affected by the fatalities being the priority.
Again anything that you can donate is extremely important and well worthwhile.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and time,
Simon Wright and all the Jocks of 8 Platoon, Charlie Coy, 2 SCOTS.
