Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After the fun we had and the success of the bike ride,  we figured there could be other mediums of transportation we haven’t used to do something (in our eyes) EPIC. So we were toying with the idea of swimming the English Channel, we’d been talking about this whilst on the bike ride… like riding 1000+ miles wasn’t tiring enough?? But this notion was abruptly quelled, when the thought of going through all the paperwork and the meetings to organise our attempt hit home. So to skip the red tape, we decided to change our form of transportation.

Water was still on our minds though. Had we been able to just go and swim it we would probably be in the gym now training, instead of sat here writing about how we didn’t do this. Water, water was the form of transport we were going to attempt next. We’d done walking across the country (Wainwrights Coast to Coast back in 2011), we’d biked through several different countries last year, so now we had to tame the collection of hydrogen and oxygen molecules we call water. But how? We couldn’t just rock up anywhere and swim?? Could we?

So over many an hour in debate of what we wanted to see while doing the challenge, and how, and where.. we both fell upon the “2 man canoe” idea. Now I may have the romantic notion of cruising along at a nice leisurely pace, taking in the surroundings, where occasionally you would see some wild animal, and beautiful countryside. But perhaps I am wrong?

So one evening we FINALLY decided on a location. THE CALEDONIAN CANAL!! We are going to canoe the mere 60 miles along the Caledonian Canal, through some of the great lakes of Scotland, from one side of the country to the next!! That is the plan! But wait… Mark has added more to this to make it more “interesting”. As one end of the Caledonian Canal starts at Fort William in Scotland, and the last of the Three Peaks is at Fort William in Scotland…. The idea is to complete the Three Peaks challenge and then complete the 5 day Canoe Journey basically through the centre of Scotland!!
