** UPDATE - 07 JANUARY 2011

Having now collected all the money in and added a bit extra to round up the figures, we've got to £5,000 for Marie Curie.  £5,000!!!

The whole event has been an amazing experience - thank you so much for your continued support!

The 2 Tower Trek Team   **

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving Page.

In a moment of insanity, the four of us - Chris Drinkall, Mike Hewitt, Chris Harding and Mike Thompson - came up with the idea of cycling from Blackpool Tower to the Eiffel Tower, being a journey of approximately 600 miles. We plan to start from Blackpool early on the morning of 31 July 2010 and be drinking an outrageously expensive cup of coffee under the Eiffel Tower by the following Saturday.

None of us have undertaken an event like this before and we are in little doubt that it is going to be painful. However, every mile of the journey will be made slightly easier knowing that we are undertaking the trek to try and raise £5000 to be split between 2 worthwhile organisations.

Cancer has directly affected the lives of 3 of the team members and it is a sad reality that the 4 of us expect that some time in the future we will once again be affected by cancer. Marie Curie Cancer Care provides care and assistance to those affected by cancer whilst at the same time, their scientists are at the forefront of cancer research.  We hope to raise at least £4,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.  For more information on Marie Curie Cancer Care go to: http://www.mariecurie.org.uk/

My daughter Evelyn Joan Drinkall (whose middle name is that of my Nana who was lost to cancer 5 years ago) was born on 20 March 2009 by emergency C-section 5 1/2 weeks earlier than she was due.  Evie had to be admitted to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Hull Women & Children's hospital for 5 days, during which time Evie received exceptional care and attention from all the staff, as did her exhausted parents. We hope to raise at least £1,000 to donate to the Baby Unit Fund at SCBU, every penny of which will go towards providing care and assistance to others like Evie when they are at their most fragile and vulnerable.

We are under no illusions that completing the trek or raising £5000 will be easy. However, it will be nothing compared to the difficult times that  people who need the help of Marie Curie Cancer Care or SCBU may go through. We WILL do the trek, no matter how hard it becomes. We hope that you can help us to make it all worthwhile by donating as much as you can so that we can reach, if not exceed, our sponsorship target.
