Story
Thank you & welcome to the fundraising page for '2Wheels to Venice', my solo, unsupported ride from Calais to Venice in late August and early September 2009.
22 days of riding will take me from Calais through north-east France towards Champagne and Alsace before the delights of southern Germany and the Black Forest. Heading east into Austria towards Salzburg I'll then turn south and start to climb the Alps, travelling through the Tyrol and past/through/over the Dolomites before a final descent into Venice, 1,048 miles, lots of brake pads and many calories later. I'll need to cover at least 60 miles a day.
I am riding to raise money for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Sea Shepherd was established in 1977 with the mission of ending the destruction of habitat and the slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosytems and species. Sea Shepherd uses innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document and take action where necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. Their work has saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of whales, dolphins, sharks, seals and turtles across the world.

I hope also that my ride will help to promote cycling as the superior mode of transport; great adventure lies in the journey as much if not more than the destination itself.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Sea Shepherd UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Your support is hugely appreciated!
