We will do whatever it takes to help you live life as fully as you can

Story

Three weeks ago following a routine abdominal scan after an emergency hernia operation I was informed that I have cancer which was like being hit by a 500 ton steam locomotive travelling in excess of 100 mph. Being a member of the MG Car Club and already planning to attend the MGB50 celebration event on Sunday 23 September at Blenheim Palace I have decided to ask for your support in raising as much money as I can for this quite remarkable charity.

As soon as I was diagnosed Macmillan Cancer Support swung into action and both my wife and I cannot speak highly enough of their network.  I begin my first session of Chemotherapy two weeks prior to my leaving for Blenheim and it is my intention, come hell or high water to drive my MGC the 300 miles and back to this event. Careful planning has gone into this with my doctors who have willingly arranged my therapy so I am at my best for the run, however I hope you can understand that if I am not well enough your donations will be used wisely by Macmillan.

For those of you who don’t know me so well here is a bit of my history in particular with regards to the MG Car Club and the joy I have had in being a member over the years.

I decided that when I went into semi-retirement that as a long term, but nevertheless rather peripheral member of the MG Car Club, I would to like to give just something back to the Club that had given me so much fun over the years especially in the early 1960’s.

In 2006 my wife and I moved north to Northumberland as neither of us wanted to miss out on seeing our grandchildren grow up following the marriage of our only daughter to a delightful young man, also from Northumberland.    At about the same time I transferred my Membership of the MGCC from the Abingdon Works Centre to the Tyne Tees Centre.   Then in November 2007 opportunity came my way and I volunteered to take on the Chairmanship of the Centre and with a number of others, to grow the Centre back up again to its former glory.    Initially the task seemed to be quite daunting, but one thing I needed was a long-legged MG to enable me to cover the not insignificant geographical size of the Centre, so decided to swap my much loved MGA for a 3 litre MGC.

Before long it was discovered that I had certain computer graphics skills, such that I was soon being asked to create Rally Plate designs not only for the Tyne Tees Centre but also one or two other groups within the MGCC including MGB50.    Little did I know that within weeks I would be in need of Macmillan Cancer Support as the chosen Charity of MGB50 and the MG Car Club.

I hope that I have given you an insight into me and why I ask for your support in raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
